Writing romance novels and the curious relationship with time

Sweet and wholesome romance

Have you ever noticed the curious relationship we authors have with time? If we have plenty of it available, we find we are less productive. We search out activities to fill the day and before we know it our precious time has gone. Yet give us a snatched hour late at night or first thing in the morning and the words flow onto the page or screen. Why this is I have no idea and perhaps it is unique to me, but I have come across other authors with the same experience, and to overcome it we have to be disciplined. For myself, I like to set a minimum word count for the day, and once I have achieved this goal, I feel I can relax. This way at least I have a benchmark against which to judge myself and if I’m falling short then I apply the pressure accordingly. Perhaps it is because we all lead such busy lives that when we have a day or perhaps a weekend of writing ahead, it is a luxury and we relax to enjoy the experience.

I am currently working on my fourth contemporary romance novel entitled ‘Finding Our Forever’ with our hero and heroine, Beau and Dana. It is set in the rolling fields and pastures of a Texas ranch and is due for release either late this year or early next year. But in the meantime, Sweet Redemption is due out in November and you can find my first two novels here –  Love Song, with Ruby, and Benjamin and Love Is Never Lost, with Ruby and Benjamin. All are or will be available in Kindle Unlimited so if you are subscribed you can read all my contemporary romance novels free.
