As romance authors, we are constantly searching for inspiring quotes or for ways for our heroes and heroines to express their love for one another in expressive ways. Yes, we have fluttering and pounding hearts, a racing pulse, and weak at the knees responses, but these can be a little tedious at times so where can we look for inspiration? And this is one of my favorite sites at https://poets.org/ for several reasons.
First, and perhaps most important of all, it is easy to navigate and makes it a breeze to search out topics or terms. So looking for love-related poems is easy. Second, it covers a vast array of poets, from the well-known greats to the modern and contemporary. When I’m writing a love scene and want to describe the passion in a more creative way, this is where I always start. It may not give me an ‘out of the box solution’, but it may well provide some food for thought which then guides me on a different path. And perhaps this is the biggest trap for new sweet and wholesome romance authors which is simply to write what comes to mind which is often the beating heart description and I am always conscious of attempting to deliver alternatives that are more lyrical and I hope to provide a higher level of emotional engagement for the reader. Some believe writing romance novels is easy. I can assure you, that like anything else it takes hard work and dedication to craft lyrical prose that tugs at the heartstrings – and there you have it! Tugging at the heartstrings! I rest my case.
